Social Work Breaks Barriers

Updated: May 3, 2023

March is Social Work Month and the theme of 2023 is Social Work Breaks Barriers. I can't help but think about you and talk about the barriers you face.

The barrier of TIME – Is your workload unmanageable? Are you too busy to take care of yourself?

The barrier of RESOURCES – Do you have the resources you need to do the job expected of you? Is your salary enough to provide financial stability?

The barrier of ENERGY – Does your current job/boss/organization drain your energy leaving you unable to make a change?

The barrier of a KNOWLEDGE or SKILL GAP – Do you have the skills you need to do the job you want?

The barrier of misguided/TOXIC ALTRUISTIC THINKING – Do you feel incapacitated by your duty to your clients, wondering if this is what you signed up for?

The barrier of ISOLATION – Do you feel disconnected from your work, your organization, the profession? What about your purpose?

The barrier of FEAR – Do you wonder if you deserve different? Does it feel selfish to advocate for yourself?

Do any of these sound familiar?

What do you need to support your capacity to take action against the obstacles you face?

Welcome to GROW! My name is Tracey, I am a social worker and business owner based out of Texas, USA. In 2022, I established GROW to cultivate community and professional self-care and development resources for social work students, practitioners and organizations. You are invited to connect with the community on LinkedIn. Ask questions, offer advice, and chat! The more engaged you are, the more you will get out of the community.

I feel strongly that YOU the social worker MATTERs. Your contributions that change our nation and our world are unique because you are unique. Your why and how you live it out through your work is extraordinary. Are you struggling to activate the best version of yourself or your team? Let's chat!
