What is holding you back?

Updated: Apr 24, 2023

Do you have professional pursuits that are not realized?

In an overflowing Baylor University crowd in 2011, Condoleezza Rice encouraged the audience to stop waiting around just because they might lack a role model that looks like them to take action. She was direct and unapologetic. Thank you Dr. Rice!

Do you have professional pursuits that are not realized? What is holding you back?

In my role as a social work educator and social work career coach I am eager to help students and clients identify what is holding them back from advancing their career path and or changing their professional situation. This work often includes helping them focus and market their professional brand, establish and develop professional networks, create a job search strategy...

No doubt this work contributes to career progress, but activating your full potential requires more. So, what might you be missing in your efforts to advance your career path and or change your professional situation?

Are you ready to commit to living according to your own course rather than other people's?

Do you know what it means to think about work differently, to practice professional self-care and pursue transformational career development? What does that even mean?

To me and for my work through GROW it means:

  • Engaging purposefully in self-care that sets boundaries and promotes holistic health and well-being so that you can effectively and appropriately (ethically) carry out your professional role.

  • Pushing beyond your limiting beliefs.

  • Cultivating a connection with professional self and meaning that enables you to design your own career pathway not chase someone else’s.

  • Building career readiness and/or professional development competence that goes beyond your SW competencies.

  • Embracing a feedback culture.

  • Being curious and finding opportunities to learn and grow every day.

  • Building relationships and investing in their success.

What does it mean for you?

The time is now to discover and activate your potential. What do you need to identify what is holding you back from advancing your career path and or changing your professional situation?

If you are looking for additional support for yourself or your team I encourage you to set up a Complementary Professional Self-Care Discovery Consultation.
